It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Anita O’Day energies, virtually a rebirth. On All the Sad Young Men album, Anita O’Day have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Anita O’Day on ‘Up State’. I love this album so much, i’ve been crazy about Anita O’Day ever.
Excellent vocals and musical performances. One More Mile is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. I listened to the opening track Do Nothin’ Till You Hear From Me and liked it a lot. The Ballad Of All The Sad Young Men is pretty funky and mellow. Overall a nice softer song. I Want To Sing A Song which is my favorite is a truly Anita O’Day sounding song. Simple and heartfelt closing track You Came A Long Way From St. Louis closes All the Sad Young Men on a high note. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Boogie Blues, which shows, blatantly, how much Anita O’Day has evolved as a singer.
