This twelve-song debut EP shows the promise that Elegy has. While no new Elegy album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1998 tour in Australia. It’s natural for Elegy to take a stab at ‘Equinox (Instrumental)’ considering her long-professed love for Green Grey. Cool, but I like their other actual stuff better like State of Mind.
Visual Vortex marked the continuation of Elegy in style evolution. Trust is a very catchy tune. Beyond is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after State of Mind have ended. You have to get essence of the Shadow Dancer’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Aladdins Cave is pretty funky and mellow. State Of Mind has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Elegy’s strong vocals come to the fore. If you are a Elegy fan, you will love Destiny Calling. Resurrection (Instrumental) is a great opener for State of Mind. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Suppression is simple, dignified and effective, Elegy refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more.
