It’s natural for The Dubliners to take a stab at ‘Seven Drunken Nights’ considering her long-professed love for KLF. two years ago, The Dubliners briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “The Galway Races”. After seeing Seven Drunken Nights, I had to have a good The Dubliners cd. Overall, I would highly recommend 1966-1969 CD.
No The Dubliners song has come close to capturing my attention as The Galway Races did. The Old Alarm Clock - This one makes me want to not only sing along. Colonel Fraser & O’Rouke’s as a highlight of 1966-1969 contains a ton of exquisite melodies. The Rising Of The Moon - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of The Dubliners. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: McCafferty, which shows, blatantly, how much The Dubliners has evolved as a singer. I’m A Rover is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. The Dubliners offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. The Travelling People has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Limerick Rake is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. The sound in Zoological Gardens is really warm and The Dubliners’s signature voice is still very much present. The Fairmoye Lasses And … great lyrics, dark, deep, angry and cool.I believe Black Velvet Band is one of the most marvelous, heartfelt songs ever written. Poor Paddy On The Railway is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. A great put together song. Net Hauting Song is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. Nancy Whiskey - A nice song. Many Young Men Of Twenty which is my favorite is a truly The Dubliners sounding song. Paddy’s Gone To France Skylark is one of the best records ever. Still going through 1966-1969 and coming to appreciate Molly Bawn more and more with every listen. The Dundee Weaver is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. The Irish Navy is a medium tempo tune. Tibby Dunbar is perfect. This track is just a stunning masterpiece. All of songs on 1966-1969 and have something to say letting alone I Wish I Were Back In Liverpoo. Once you hear Go To Sea No More, you will listen to it over and over. Instrumental Medley is the albums biggest surprise. The Dubliners is hitting on all cylinders in Darby O’Leary. All For Me Grog makes a person feel gorgeous. Cork Hornpipe - The Dubliners first major hit. What sets Peggy Gordon apart is The Dubliners’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Maid Of The Sweet Brown Kno is simple, dignified and effective, The Dubliners refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Quare Bungle Rye - To me, this is the best song on the 1966-1969. Flop Eared Mule (Donkey Reel) is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Lyrics of Poor Old Dicey Riley are precise and evocative. Whiskey On A Sunday to me is the best you can get from The Dubliners. The Dubliners allows each song to breathe and flourish. Song Navvy Boots is actually a funny song. Maids When You’re Young Never good vocals. The opening track Rattling Roaring Willie is very much like you would expect from other albums. The Dubliners emotions are reflected through Mrs McGrath. Carolan Concerto is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything The Dubliners released so far.
