On Reggae Greats album, Lee Scratch Perry have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Reggae Greats carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. Since completing 1984’s ‘Party Time - The Heptones’, Lee Scratch Perry fulfilled their contract with Sparrow Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Overall, I would highly recommend Reggae Greats CD.
Police & Thieves - Junior Murvin - To me, this is the best song on the Reggae Greats. Groovy Situation - Keith Rowe, Keith Rowe is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Soul Fire - Lee “Scratch” Perry is absolutely incredible. War Ina Babylon - Max Romeo is pretty funky and mellow. Wisdom - Jah Lion - A nice song. To Be a Lover - George Faith is a song to enjoy for years to come. I can’t stop playing Roast Fish and Cornbread - Lee “Scratch” Perry. Croaking Lizard - Prince Jazzbo is simple, dignified and effective, Lee Scratch Perry refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. I now have Dreadlocks in Moonlight - Lee “Scratch” Perry as one of my personal favorites.
