Since Sopor Aeternus last CD (The Inexperienced Spiral Traveller) on Columbia Records back in 1997, I have felt a massive void in my life. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Sopor Aeternus’s album The Inexperienced Spiral Traveller falls to No. 2 with 589,000, a sales slide of 88%. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Sopor Aeternus on ‘Sylla’boreal’. To me Sopor Aeternus is the best band ever.
Question(s) Beyond Terms is perfect. You have to get essence of the C’ayllagher A Dom’bhrail’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. To A Loyal Friend is the first taste of the new album. Never Trust The Obvious catches attention immediately, The Inexperienced Spiral Traveller - arguably the best track on The Inexperienced Spiral Traveller album. Once Memalon gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Memories Are Haunted Places is astounding. Music and lyrics of Die Widerspenstigkeit Unerwunschter Gedanken creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Synchronicity gives taste of what makes Sopor Aeternus special as a musician. Totenlicht without a doubt is the standout song of The Inexperienced Spiral Traveller. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Ein Freundliches Wort, which shows, blatantly, how much Sopor Aeternus has evolved as a singer. Die Toten Kehren Wieder Mit Dem Wind is really the reason why I recommend buying The Inexperienced Spiral Traveller. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. I’ve found myself listening to Ein Gutiges Lacheln Auf Den Gesichtern Der Toten back to back and back many times.
