After debuting at No. 1 last week, Sonny Terry’s album Whoopin The Blues: Capitol Recordings 47-50 falls to No. 2 with 703,000, a sales slide of 89%. For older fans Whoopin The Blues: Capitol Recordings 47-50 will put a massive smile accross your face. Sonny Terry was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Sonny Terry and Whoopin The Blues: Capitol Recordings 47-50 together. Telephone Blues and Custard Pie Blues is really good.
Custard Pie Blues still maintains something of a specific flourish. This song stands out greatly from the others. Mad Man Blues actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Sonny Terry’s face. All Alone Blues one of the best in my collection. I’ve found myself listening to Dirty Mistreater, Don’t You Know back to back and back many times. I hope to keep hearing Sonny Terry works for a long time to come. Whoopin’ The Blues is a medium tempo tune. In Beer Garden Blues it becomes nowhere more obvious that Sonny Terry has yet to define own style. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. In Crow Jane Blues the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. Sonny Terry is hitting on all cylinders in Worried Man Blues. Airplane Blues had me crying as I was able to relate so well. Don’t judge Hot Headed Woman on the first listening. Harmonica Rag is another strong production from Sonny Terry. Leavin’ Blues is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about.
