The Pogues had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. This disc has all of the essential The Pogues classics. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of The Pogues energies, virtually a rebirth. Smart music for smart people.
Strong, powerful vocals of The Pogues in Sally Maclennane are very impressive. Dirty Old Town is The Pogues’s best work in years. The Irish Rover is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. A Pair Of Brown Eyes is simply perfect. Streams Of Whiskey one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. A Rainy Night In Soho is gorgeous and different song. I like to sing along with Fiesta, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. Rain Street is beautiful, yet underrated track. The Pogues rocks harder than ever with Misty Morning, Albert Bridge. White City - A classic The Pogues track. Thousands Are Sailing is outstanding work of The Pogues. The Broad Majestic Shannon - To me, this is the best song on the Essentials. I find myself hearing bits of The Body Of An American here and there throughout my waking hours.
