It has been three years The Pogues’ last studio CD, “Hell’s Ditch” which won Array MTV Music Awards and was nominated for album of the year. Lead single “The Sunnyside Of The Street” and “Sayonara” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. This is the first studio album from The Pogues since bad diagnosis in 1990. Oh yes, this album gets Array out of Array
Sayonara is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. The Ghost Of A Smile is another strong production from The Pogues. Hell’s Ditch - A strong beat. I’ve found myself listening to Lorca’s Novena back to back and back many times. Within the first few notes of Summer In Siam it’s perfectly clear that The Pogues is living this song. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. In Rainbow Man full palet of sound is used by The Pogues to accentuate the presentation. The song The Wake Of The Medusa ending is my favorite… so catchy! House Of The Gods is one of these floating songs. Five Green Queens and Jean (2:36) - awsome. Maidrin Rua marked the continuation of The Pogues in style evolution. Six To Go has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets The Pogues’s strong vocals come to the fore.
