It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Roy Buchanan energies, virtually a rebirth. This disc has all of the essential Roy Buchanan classics. Lead single “Baltimore” and “Black Autumn” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Overall, I would highly recommend Sweet Dreams: The Anthology (CD 1) CD.
Black Autumn is a great opener for Sweet Dreams: The Anthology (CD 1). The opening track The Story Of Isaac is very much like you would expect from other albums. There’ll Always Be is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. First time I heard Sweet Dreams was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.Pete’s Blue is simply exquisite. The first time I listened to The Messiah Will Come Again I was struck by its exquisite sound. Tribute To Elmore James is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Sweet Dreams: The Anthology (CD 1). After Hours is Roy Buchanan’s best work in years. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Sweet Dreams: The Anthology (CD 1). Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with C.C. Rider (Live). Blew our minds when we first heard My Baby Says She’s Gonna Leave Me. Please Don’t Turn Me Away is one of the best records ever. Country Preacher is one of the coolest songs Roy Buchanan has ever recorded. Wayfaring Pilgrim was the first single release from the album Sweet Dreams: The Anthology (CD 1).
