It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Roy Buchanan energies, virtually a rebirth. When you buy a Roy Buchanan album, you know exactly what you’re getting! Roy Buchanan’s debut, ‘The Early Years’, does not fit easily into one genre. Another great offering from Roy Buchanan.
Mule Train Stomp is a very catchy tune. Pretty Please is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through The Early Years. Whiskers pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. After Hours is a medium tempo tune. Mary Lou one of the best in my collection. The Shuffle without a doubt is the standout song of The Early Years. I like Potato Peeler because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Loretta (1:59) a good melody. Am I The One has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Ruby Baby is my favorite song on The Early Years. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Braggin’ because the melody in the chorus is so good. Vocals of Roy Buchanan in The Jam, Part 2 really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. Shake The Hand Of A Fool is a bit of a show-tune. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. Twin Exhaust is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo.
