Since Noir Desir last CD (Dies Irae) on Virgin Records back in 1998, I have felt a massive void in my life. Jim Jones has compared writing for Noir Desir’s new album to that on ‘Dies Irae’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Since completing 1998’s ‘La Rage’, Noir Desir fulfilled their contract with Virgin Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Overall, I would highly recommend Dies Irae CD.
Such hits like Here It Comes Slowly will leave you hooked. This song is very powerful, its catchy melody will have you singing along in no time. Song One Trip One Noise is actually a funny song. The sound of Alice is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Noir Desir rocks harder than ever with Les Ecorches. Le Fleuve is such a exquisite and optimistic song that things can get just better. Oublie is another strong production from Noir Desir. This track is full of harmonies and gets Dies Irae off to a relaxing start. It’s a great pleasure to listen to Sober Song from the beginning to the end. This track is a fabulous selection of easy listening, suitable for any age, taste or occasion. Johnny Colere is a medium tempo tune. Holy Economic War is simply cool. La Chaleur - arguably the best track on Dies Irae album. l’Arriere des Taxis is one of these floating songs. Marlene has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. If you are a Noir Desir fan, you will love Long Time Man. Nice and different song. In What I Need you won’t find any flashy solos. Noir Desir offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. En Route Pour la Joie makes a person feel astounding.
