Lead single “Heavy Disco Trip” and “Be My Wife” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. On Beehive Live album, Paul Gilbert have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. While no new Paul Gilbert album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1999 tour in North America. Smart music for smart people.
Be My Wife is astounding. Get It - another great track from the Beehive Live album. Mr. Skin is simple, dignified and effective, Paul Gilbert refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Blew our minds when we first heard Down To Mexico. After few listenings I started to like Girls Who Can Read Your Mind more and more. Tell The Truth on Beehive Live is solid and easy to listen to. Bumblebee is the albums biggest surprise. Million Dollar Smile - Check out that bassline! Hold Her Tight sets the tone for the entire album. Voice of Paul Gilbert in I’m Just In Love is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. Within the first few notes of Red Rooster it’s perfectly clear that Paul Gilbert is living this song. To Be With You has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. A great put together song.
