Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Samson’s new album to that on ‘The Masters (Pt. Ii)’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. The Masters (Pt. Ii) isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Now signed to Samson’s Sparrow Records, the title track from second album “The Masters (Pt. Ii)” leads Samson’s back-to-school campaign. Overall, I would highly recommend The Masters (Pt. Ii) CD.
The first time I listened to Slip Away I was struck by its astounding sound. Someone To Turn To (4:34) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. Love This Time is the album’s biggest hit, I think. Samurai Sunset - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Some call Love Hungry from The Masters (Pt. Ii) as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. Samson allows each song to breathe and flourish. It Ain’t Fair - This one is lively and fun. The song feels complete. I listened to the opening track Earth Mother and liked it a lot. This song stands out greatly from the others. A Matter Of Time - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites.
