On Folon From The Past album, Salif Keita have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. I am not a real Rock music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Folon From The Past’ really is amazing. Since completing 1995’s ‘Tekere’, Salif Keita fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Folon From The Past is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
In Mandjou you won’t find any flashy solos. Africa is a great opener for Folon From The Past. The sound in Nyanyama is really warm and Salif Keita’s signature voice is still very much present. Mandela is pretty funky and mellow. Sumun sets the tone for the entire album. Music of Seydou is gentle, never overbearing. In this song fans will recognize the unique vocals of Salif Keita. Salif Keita breathes new life into the music in Folon.
