Lead single “As Tears Go By” and “Come and Stay With Me” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Since Marianne Faithfull last CD (The Very Best Of) on ForeFront Records back in 1990, I have felt a massive void in my life. Self-described as Rock: Pop-Rock with lots of words, Marianne Faithfull comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. If I may, I suggest “As Tears Go By”. That one song is amazing!
Come and Stay With Me - a classic song. Scarborough Fair sets the tone for the entire album. So much energy, so exciting a sound.Yesterday has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. The Last Thing On My Mind without a doubt is the standout song of The Very Best Of. What Have They Done To The Rain is so unique, as each one of the songs is. This Little Bird (2:05) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. Something Better - Check out that bassline! I listened to the opening track In My Time Of Sorrow and liked it a lot. Some of the arrangements found on The Very Best Of are surprisingly edgy. Tomorrow’s Calling is the album’s biggest hit, I think. Reason To Believe is one of the best records ever. Sister Morphine is a striking and quite long song. First time I heard Go Away From My World was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.Summer Nights - A strong beat.
