Since Burl Ives last CD (The Nashville Years, Vol. 2) on Virgin Records back in 1993, I have felt a massive void in my life. This disc has all of the essential Burl Ives classics. There is no doubt that Burl Ives has talent. Burl Ives “The Nashville Years, Vol. 2″ is an amazing album.
One listen to the sheer beauty of Poor Little Jimmie was all I needed. Excellent vocals and musical performances. A unique and uplifting song. I listened to the opening track That’s All I Can Remember and liked it a lot. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on The Nashville Years, Vol. 2 is Ninety Nine. I came to like Call Me Mr. In-between. I Ain’t Comin’ Home Tonight is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. How Do You Fall Out Of Love (3:12) - awsome. In Foggy Old London is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. A fantastic track full of wonder. Let The Lower Lights Be Burning had me crying as I was able to relate so well. Listening to Beulah Land you can hear that Burl Ives has still amazing chemistry with band members. Standing On The Promises is a bit different from Burl Ives stereotypical stuff. Fairest Lord Jesus is the more seemingly obscure song on The Nashville Years, Vol. 2 that bear up best to repeated listening. When I listen to We’re Marching To Zion in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. Sunshine In My Soul 1962 is the first taste of the new album. In Blessed Assurance the music gets its power. Leaning On The Everlasting Arms is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Burl Ives released so far. Where He Leads Me is excellent work of Burl Ives. Will There Be Any Stars is beautiful, yet underrated track. When They Ring Those Golden Bells is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. The Same Old Hurt is Burl Ives’s best work in years. After few listenings I started to like Wishin’ She Was Here (Instead Of Me) more and more. Best song on the album, love it. Opening track Poor Boy In A Rich Man’s Town 1963 shows the best of Burl Ives.
