‘Hymns’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Since completing 1998’s ‘Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven’, Loretta Lynn fulfilled their contract with Mute Records and where under no obligation to release another album. two years ago, Loretta Lynn briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Where No One Stands Alone”. Hymns is the best essence of Loretta Lynn.
Where No One Stands Alone - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. It’s a great pleasure to listen to When They Ring Those Golden Bells from the beginning to the end. Peace in the Valley has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. Song If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again is actually a funny song. Third Man is really a nice song to relax and listen too. As always, Loretta Lynn’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Old Camp Meetin’ Time which is my favorite is a truly Loretta Lynn sounding song. This is one hell of a track. In In the Sweet By and By you won’t find any flashy solos. Where I Learned to Pray - A classic Loretta Lynn track. This is probably my favorite song on the album.
