After debuting at No. 1 last week, The Highwaymen’s album Highwayman I falls to No. 2 with 615,000, a sales slide of 74%. Lead single “Highwayman” and “The Last Cowboy Song” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of The Highwaymen on ‘Highwayman’. Highwayman I touched my soul like nothing else.
The Last Cowboy Song is one of the best records ever. Jim, I Wore A Tie Today is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track The Highwaymen ever produced. Charming song, great melody. Committed To Parkview is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Highwayman I have ended. You have to get essence of the Desperados Waiting For A Train’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. The Highwaymen offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. Welfare Line - This one is lively and fun. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Highwayman I. The Twentieth Century Is Almost Over - arguably the best track on Highwayman I album.
